At EDF, Success is Personal – and together, we’ll help Britain achieve net zero. Here, you’ll gain hands-on experience, learn from experts, and play a vital role in protecting people and the environment.

The Opportunity

Our Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship offers a starting salary of £25,139 and the chance to achieve a Level 2 qualification in Radiation Protection.

This two-year programme combines practical learning with academic study. You’ll develop skills to monitor radiation and contamination, interpret results, and provide safety advice to operators – ensuring safe operations in nuclear facilities.

You’ll train at the National College for Nuclear in Somerset during a two-week classroom block in Year 1, supported by remote learning through BlackBoard. This radiation protection apprenticeship gives you hands-on experience and industry-recognised qualifications to start your career in nuclear safety. It’s all part of EDF’s mission to drive the transition towards An Electric Britain.

Your Work Location

You will work with Radiological Protection teams at Hinkley Point C, with placements at other locations, alongside a two-week period spent at college.

What You’ll Experience

  • Radiation monitoring using specialist equipment
  • Interpreting measurements and applying them to real-life scenarios
  • Practical learning supported by experienced mentors and tutors
  • Training in health, safety and quality standards
  • Opportunities to work in varied environments, including outdoors and at heights

This role involves tasks that require compliance with health and safety regulations. Therefore, candidates must be at least 18 years old by the start date of the apprenticeship.

Our Assessment Centre will take place at the National College for Nuclear, Cannington on Wednesday 8th April.
