How do you manage your time to ensure a healthy work-life balance, how are you supported in this?
Working on such a large project each day looks different with some being busier than others. Due to the scale of the project, I also travel to different offices quite frequently. On days where I am busier, I may have to work slightly longer hours however the company support me to make sure any overtime I work is paid back so I am still able to maintain the work life balance.
What development opportunities have you had since joining and how have you been supported in this?
Within the first month working for Mott MacDonald, I was allocated a Supervising Civil Engineer and Delegated Engineer and signed up to the Institution of Civil Engineers training agreement. My Delegated Engineer also happens to work on the same project as me, which has been hugely beneficial as he’s been able to offer consistent support with day-to-day tasks. Since then, I’ve had regular check ins with both, which has really helped me to stay on track.
Are you part of any wider company initiatives outside of your day-to-day role?
Although I haven’t been involved in any company-specific initiatives, since joining Mott MacDonald I’ve taken on a role within the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) West Midlands Early Careers Professionals committee. Mott MacDonald has been incredibly supportive of this involvement from the outset. The current chair for 2024–2025 is also a colleague, and the company frequently assists with hosting events at the office. One recent example was a Women in Engineering event, which featured a panel of engineers to the scale of the project, I also travel to different offices quite frequently. On days where I am busier, I may have to work slightly longer hours however the company support me to make sure any overtime I work is paid back so I am still able to maintain the work life balance.
