Fabian joined Howdens straight from college and began his career as a Junior Demand Planner. Through structured development, on-the-job learning and a Supply Chain Management Degree Apprenticeship, he has progressed into a Demand Planner role and continues to build his expertise across the supply chain function.
Why did you choose to apply for an apprenticeship with Howdens?
I wanted the opportunity to continue my education while gaining practical workplace experience. The apprenticeship allowed me to develop my knowledge of supply chain operations, gain valuable industry experience and work towards a recognised qualification alongside my role.
How has your apprenticeship positively helped you prepare for your current role?
The apprenticeship has provided a strong foundation in supply chain principles while allowing me to apply my learning in a real business environment. It has developed my confidence, broadened my understanding of the industry and helped me become more effective in my role.
Can you share a specific experience during your apprenticeship that has been beneficial to your development?
One of the most valuable aspects has been learning from both academic study and practical experience. Collaborating with colleagues, engaging with industry professionals and gaining exposure to different areas of the business has helped me develop a broader understanding of supply chain operations and professional working practices.
What difference has the apprenticeship made to your life?
The apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to continue learning while developing my career. It has increased my confidence, expanded my knowledge and provided greater clarity around my future career aspirations. The combination of study and practical experience has been invaluable to my development.
Reflecting back, what have you enjoyed most about the apprenticeship or work culture?
The support from colleagues, managers and the wider business has made a huge difference to my experience. I have particularly enjoyed working within a team that values development, encourages learning and provides opportunities to grow both professionally and personally.
What would you say to someone thinking of applying for a Howdens apprenticeship?
I would highly recommend it. An apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain real workplace experience while continuing to learn and develop. It provides a strong foundation for building a successful career and opens up a wide range of future opportunities.
