About Corey
Apprentice Warehouse Person at Howdens Belfast (Duncrue)
Before joining Howdens, Corey gained practical experience working alongside a family member in a trade environment, where he developed valuable skills such as attention to detail, organisation and teamwork. Looking for an opportunity to build on these skills and develop a long-term career, he began his warehouse apprenticeship with Howdens.
Why did you choose to apply for an apprenticeship with Howdens?
I chose Howdens because of its reputation for supporting apprentices and providing opportunities to learn and develop. I wanted to join a business where I could gain practical experience, build new skills and be part of a team that takes pride in delivering great service.
How has your apprenticeship positively helped you prepare for your current role?
My apprenticeship has helped me develop a strong understanding of warehouse operations and improve my organisational and teamwork skills. Through hands-on experience, I have gained confidence in carrying out daily responsibilities and contributing to the smooth running of the depot.
Can you share a specific experience during your apprenticeship that has been beneficial to your development?
One of the most valuable experiences has been learning how different warehouse activities work together to support customers and depot operations. Taking responsibility for stock handling, order preparation and maintaining an organised workspace has helped me develop confidence and attention to detail.
What difference has the apprenticeship made to your life?
The apprenticeship has helped me become more organised and improve my time management skills. Balancing work, learning and personal commitments has taught me how to plan effectively and manage responsibilities, which has benefited both my professional and personal development.
Reflecting back, what have you enjoyed most about the apprenticeship or work culture?
The support from my colleagues and managers has been the best part of the experience. Everyone has been approachable, encouraging and willing to help whenever needed, creating a positive environment where I have been able to learn, develop and build confidence.
What would you say to someone thinking of applying for a Howdens apprenticeship?
I would definitely recommend it. You receive great support, gain valuable practical experience and have the opportunity to develop skills that can help build a successful long-term career. If you are willing to learn and work hard, it is a fantastic opportunity.
