Before joining Howdens, Ellie was working in retail and looking for an opportunity that offered greater responsibility, new challenges and long-term career prospects. Keen to develop her skills and gain experience in a professional environment, she began her apprenticeship at Howdens and quickly became a valued member of the team.
Why did you choose to apply for an apprenticeship with Howdens?
I heard positive feedback about Howdens and wanted to join a company with a strong reputation for supporting its people. The apprenticeship appealed to me because it offered the opportunity to learn new skills, gain valuable experience and build a long-term career.
How has your apprenticeship positively helped you prepare for your current role?
My apprenticeship has helped me develop confidence, communication skills and a greater understanding of the business. Through working with customers, supporting day-to-day operations and learning from experienced colleagues, I have gained the knowledge and experience needed to grow within my role.
Can you share a specific experience during your apprenticeship that has been beneficial to your development?
One of the most valuable experiences has been receiving training across different areas of the depot. This has broadened my knowledge, helped me understand how different functions work together and allowed me to develop a wider range of skills.
What difference has the apprenticeship made to your life?
The apprenticeship has helped me grow both personally and professionally. It has increased my confidence, provided new opportunities and given me greater independence. The experience has helped me develop important life skills while building the foundations of my career.
Reflecting back, what have you enjoyed most about the apprenticeship or work culture?
The support from my manager, colleagues and the wider team has been the highlight of my apprenticeship. Everyone has been welcoming, encouraging and willing to help me learn, making it easy to settle into the business and continue developing.
What would you say to someone thinking of applying for a Howdens apprenticeship?
I would highly recommend it. An apprenticeship with Howdens provides the opportunity to learn new skills, gain practical experience and work alongside supportive colleagues. It is a great way to build confidence, develop your career and work towards your future goals.
