From Joinery to Sales: How Harvey Lloyd Is Building a Future with a Howdens Apprenticeship
About Harvey
Before joining Howdens, Harvey completed a Joinery Apprenticeship and gained experience through customer-focused and practical roles. Looking to move into a sales environment where he could develop new skills and work closely with customers, he chose an apprenticeship with Howdens to help build a long-term career.
Why did you choose to apply for an apprenticeship with Howdens?
I wanted to develop a career in sales while working in a role that offered variety and customer interaction. After learning more about the opportunity and meeting the team, I could see that Howdens would provide the support, training and career development I was looking for.
How has your apprenticeship positively helped you prepare for your current role?
My apprenticeship has helped me develop communication, organisation and customer service skills. By working directly with customers and colleagues every day, I have gained confidence, improved my product knowledge and learned how to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy environment.
Can you share a specific experience during your apprenticeship that has been beneficial to your development?
One of the most valuable experiences has been learning how to manage customer enquiries and support depot operations. Taking ownership of tasks, working as part of a team and contributing to customer service activities has helped me build confidence and develop professionally.
What difference has the apprenticeship made to your life?
The apprenticeship has allowed me to gain valuable workplace experience while continuing to learn. It has helped me grow in confidence, improve my professional skills and gain a better understanding of working within a fast-paced business environment.
Reflecting back, what have you enjoyed most about the apprenticeship or work culture?
The support from colleagues has been a real highlight. From day one, I have felt welcomed and encouraged to learn. The team environment is supportive, collaborative and focused on helping individuals develop and succeed.
What would you say to someone thinking of applying for a Howdens apprenticeship?
I would absolutely recommend it. An apprenticeship with Howdens provides the opportunity to develop valuable skills, gain practical experience and build a strong foundation for your future career. If you are willing to work hard and learn, the opportunities are there for you.
