Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

in the first 6 months of my placement i spent my time preparing audited accounts using RSM's software's, undergoing review checks. The last 6 months involved preparing corporation tax returns and entities of all sizes and offering tax advice to clients.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, throughout my time i have been given the responsibility to prepare comps and accounts by myself, with support where needed. i was given the trust very early on which allowed me to progress fast.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have developed my financial reporting skills in both departments. I have developed my knowledge on taxation and broadened my commercial awareness by working in industry. As well as this, I have worked on my soft skills with training related to confidence, communication, team work etc.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

A buddy system is set up within the firm whereby before starting a team member provides and offers any advice about the role and training throughout. they are your 'go to' person for anything. my buddy has been supportive for the full year regular check-ins, as well as my managers and both departments.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company has a great atmosphere, with lots of opportunities to socialise and network. We had various volunteering and charity opportunities and network groups such as 'faith' or 'empower' that organised regular calls and events.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement with very few complaints. 6 months in, i have been offerred a graudate role, and due to enjoying my time here, i have chosen to return.
