Sales Support Review

My daily tasks include refreshing the forecast file each morning, forecasting with my team once a week, attending team meetings, responding to email ADHOC requests and then working on any other projects or development activities I am involved with.

I felt valued as we were given our own job titles and roles so it was motivating to have this responsibility as well as the option to get involved with other projects.
During the placement there are many opportunities and projects to get involved with outside of your main role and you feel that you are trusted with the tasks you are given.

I've developed my Excel skills from a basic level to much more advanced by using it every day. I have also developed other skills like communication, teamwork, problem solving, presentation skills, time management and the ability to work under pressure, amongst many others. By also having the opportunity to apply to be a part of the Early Careers marketing committee this has allowed me to gain marketing experience additional to my role.

Even working remotely, the support from colleagues within the business and the culture shone through.
When you first start the year, the current intern you are taking over from stays the first month with you to thoroughly teach you their role, introduce you to colleagues and support you through the first weeks with anything you need to know. This is extremely helpful and organised and definitely boosts your confidence for when you start the role on your own! My manager was extremely supportive and we had regular bi-weekly calls to discuss my progress. Within the teams that I have been a part of, many have been willing to help and offer opportunities to join customer facing or internal calls which have helped expand my role and widen my experience.
We have regular quarterly check points with members from the Early Careers team to discuss our personal development and any queries or issues that we may have.
In addition, everyone is assigned a mentor, usually in a completely different business unit to them which is helpful to widen the network, find out more about different parts of the business and to get involved in different projects.
In summary, there is a huge support network around you at this placement and you are never left to feeling on your own.

As I stated previously, although the placement was 99% virtual because of the pandemic (I've been able to get to the office once!), the culture and atmosphere really stands out.
Firstly, everyone that I have spoken to I have felt I've been treated as an equal and everyone is willing to help you and support.
The company cares about it's employees, especially an emphasis on wellness and each 2nd Friday of the month, all employees are encouraged to take the afternoon off to focus on their wellbeing. There are lots of Early Careers social events put on, volunteering and charity initiatives and also being invited to company events and enjoy them alongside other employees.
Of course this year during a pandemic has been different but everyone has adapted to still keep a focus on wellness, charities, volunteering and socials amongst others.

Gaining practical industry experience during a pandemic has been tough and working remotely proving a challenge e.g. Wi-Fi cutting out, slow internet, not having the office atmosphere and meeting people like fellow interns was more difficult.
However, I cannot look back and say I didn't enjoy it.
Everything from my team, the culture, the support network, the opportunities, members in the business I have networked with and my manager was amazing.
I feel that although I've sat at the same desk for a 13 months I am completely different person and this year has developed me so much. HPE has been a great company to undertake this placement with, I am so grateful.
