Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Your role as a media software engineer is quite fluid as it depends on what projects you wish to be involved in. Typically you'll join a daily scrum meeting where the team of developers discuss tasks (tickets) they're working on and you will have the opportunity to assist on helping with tickets or completing some independently (depending on your skill level).
You'll be working with a remote team in Vietnam so typically the mornings are busier than the afternoons due to the time difference.
You will interact with other software engineers and project managers.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Personally, I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement including running daily scrum meetings, managing other people's tickets in JIRA and communicating between different dev teams to make requirements more clear.
I also help organise key meetings to develop members of the team's understanding on certain projects.

I have also learnt numerous soft skills including managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines on different tasks and how to confidently assert myself in the business as a capable individual.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement a lot and definitely valued what I learnt from it as it gave a immense boost to my CV.
There are periods where you may feel you're not as involved or getting as much out of it as you'd like but it more depends on how willing you are as an intern to go after the work you want to do.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NBCUniversal to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to NBCUniversal
It's a great company to work with and a massive name to have on your CV, it's all about making connections and at NBCU it's very easy to connect with those working higher than you (in comparison to other companies I imagine).
The only downside is they do not have a different graduate scheme (as when I am writing this) which means you're less guaranteed a position when you complete your internship but that is where the connections may come in.
