Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

Gibson Dunn's First Year Insight Day involved introductions to the firm's corporate transactions and dispute resolution practices as well as its pro bono work. This was followed by the applications tips and tricks session, time to chat with trainees, and the commercial awareness workshop.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

I really enjoyed getting a good understanding of Gibson Dunn as a firm, especially through the friendly and relaxed conversation with the trainees. On the other hand, the sessions with the partners and associates were very useful in giving a good introduction to the legal field.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I got a good understanding of the two main areas of practices as a trainee (corporate transactions and dispute resolution). The commercial awareness workshop was particularly useful in throwing light on the relatively mysterious idea of 'commercial awareness', while also giving me an opportunity to develop my leadership and teamworking skills through the group activity.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

I found the culture to be warm and welcoming. I appreciated how genuine the trainees were and the fact that trainees are encouraged to engage high responsibility bearing in the 'free market' environment.
