Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

1.Depending on the project i am in charge of, mainly conducting technical structural engineering design ( including modelling, structural analysis, spreadsheet creation)
2. Technical reports, formal project related documents writing, which these documents will be issued to clients
3. Assisting senior engineers in different types of projects

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

yes, after i have get familiarise with the workflow in Mott MacDonald, i started to involve in a few projects at the same time, these projects can be in completely different areas. For me i have been handling cable design for one project, and structural design for another project, plus writting a few documents at the same time.
I have many opportunities to experience different work

1. learning structural modelling +analysis skills with Tekla structural designer, STAAD.Pro
2. civil 3D, Auto CAD,
3. Microsoft office, Excel in particular, and a bit VBA coding

6. Microdrainage software

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed it a lot, and i would highly recommend to all the other civil engineering students. i am able to experience various of civil engineering work ( water+ drainage, structural design, geotechnical design+earthworks, transportation...)
Really beneficial for gaining experience + personal development as a civil engineering after graduation
