Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My job consisted of assisting the financial reporting team with month end preparation and reporting. I prepared Balance sheet and P&L Reconciliation every month end. Prior to this, I was responsible for posting journals for departments/regions of the business. The other side to the financial reporting tasks consisted of looking after the marketing teams budgets/ expenses/journal posting/ accruals for a specific region. I would then prepare and present the final report to the Business Controller of the region.
My role was split and the other side was 'Change & Transformation' which consisted of the involvement of business projects and assisting the Project Manager.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement year. It was always keeping me busy and the days I was not so busy I could focus on other tasks assigned to me. Month ends was extremely business, particularly for my role.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a lot of support and guidance from my team in Finance, my manager and the HR team. Majority of the everyone I came into contact with was extremely supportive. This helped significantly as my whole placement year was done remotely.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was very professional and they did a lot of initiatives that were great for sustainability and the community. It slightly felt a bit too serious sometimes, but overall a good atmosphere to work in.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my placement year as it taught me a lot of skills and gave me a good knowledge and insight into the financial environment working in Industry. This gave me a good opportunity to explore a lot of areas of finance I was not exposed to at University. Although I did not experience the 'working life' in the office due to the pandemic, I certainly learnt how to schedule my times and days.
