Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
In my current role as a Customs Business Administration Apprentice on a day-to-day basis, I pass invoices, complete container manifests, answer and send out emails and have started looking at trading tariffs and commodity codes. I also take on any new training given to me by my Line Manager and new/extra learning through my apprenticeship provider.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I absolutely love my role here at Woodland Group as a Customs Business Administration Apprentice and everything that it involves. I have enjoyed all the learning and training so far and feel as though I am settling in nicely and getting the hang of day-to-day operations. Everyone I have met or worked with so far has been so welcoming and lovely, making me feel like I fit right in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I've learned how to pass invoices, to complete container manifests, what commodity codes are and are used for, what tariff trading is and much more on customs and logistics in general. I have also improved my email etiquette, problem-solving and decision-making skills as well as time management skills due to having to complete certain tasks and training by a set due date.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
I believe my programme is very well organized and structured making it easier to learn, stay on track and not over complicate things.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive plenty of support from my employer and surrounding colleagues too. Whenever I have needed clarity or help with a task or piece of learning, my line manager has always been very helpful and explained/discussed things more clearly and in more detail until I understood.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I have received plenty of support from my training provider and on the few occasions I have gone to them for help regarding something or with questions, they have helped to clarify things and got back to me quickly.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
It helps me with all the information and terminology that I need to learn and know to succeed and progress in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There have been a few activities such as a rugby tournament and a 3 course meal, and there is an upcoming Christmas event too.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Woodland Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend Woodland Group to friends because it is a supportive and professional company that provides excellent opportunities for learning and career development. As an apprentice, I have been given the chance to develop new skills, gain valuable industry knowledge, and work alongside experienced colleagues who are always willing to offer guidance and support. The company promotes a positive working environment where employees are encouraged to grow, take on new challenges, and progress in their careers. Woodland Group also operates within a dynamic global logistics and customs industry, making every day interesting and providing exposure to a wide range of business activities. Overall, it is a great place to work for anyone looking to build their confidence, gain practical experience, and develop a successful career.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Woodland Group?

If you are applying to Woodland Group, I would recommend being eager to learn, having a positive attitude, and showing a willingness to take on new challenges. You do not need to know everything about logistics, customs, or freight forwarding from the start, but it is important to demonstrate an interest in the industry and a commitment to developing your skills. Be prepared to ask questions, take notes, and make the most of the training opportunities available. Good communication, organisation, and teamwork skills are also valuable, as you will work with a range of colleagues and customers. Most importantly, be proactive and open to learning from experienced team members, as this will help you get the most out of your apprenticeship and build a successful career.
