Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
(Note my role changed over the course of my apprenticeship. All of these details are for my initial role.)
Reporting on service outturn and forecasts; advising and training budget officers; budget monitoring and setting; meeting return deadlines; creating reports and analysing data; advising on budget savings and pressures; communications; preparing bank transfers; posting journals; use of Excel, myOracle, and EPM software; studying ACCA.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I very much enjoyed the job and the opportunity to study alongside my other work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, and I had the chance to implement what I learned while studying into my job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
There were regular check ins and next steps were always clear.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
It was always available when I needed it. I had one study day a week, and my managers were willing for additional revision days before exams.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

1/5
The training provider Kaplan was a disappointment overall. They provided a lot of resources, but only online, and it was hard to pick out what was actually important, required, or irrelevant. They made no accommodation for my paternity leave. I was also told that I was required to study two modules and sit two exams at the same time, which was a lot of additional pressure on top of work, and this later proved to be unneccessary.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
It is essential knowledge for my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

1/5
Not generally.

Recommendations & Advice

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Norfolk County Council?

Try an apprenticeship if you can. If you get a non-apprenticeship job, you can apply to study for an apprenticeship further down the line.
