Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The degree apprenticeship is a three year course. My usual role involves one day per week leave to attend in-person study days, and these are at the University of East Anglia. The four remaining days are working in a base team, where there is an the opportunity to shadow social workers and other staff, work directly with people and their families, and undertake other relevant training. Throughout the three years, there are two placements in other teams (children's and adults), so there is the opportunity to gain experience of working with different demographics and broaden your skill set. There are also occasional block weeks where you attend university for two to three weeks every day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed the programme immensely. I love being able to attend university and being on campus. We have covered a wide range of topics has included sociology, adult and children law, social work theory and child development. The delivery of these has been exceptional by a very knowledgeable and approachable team of tutors, all from varying social work backgrounds. Means of assessment has also been varied, ranging from essays, presentations and exams.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained in confidence across the course and through the structure of the apprenticeship, have been able to apply university leaning to real life working, to solidify my understanding and improve my practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The course is very well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have had a lot of support from my employer. Shortly after starting the apprenticeship I had an unexpected change in circumstances, and Norfolk County Council have been understanding and flexible, and this allowed me to continue with the apprenticeship alongside my new caring role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have a personal advisor at university and I can contact them at any point should I need, as well as any of the tutors. The feeling of support and the desire that they want you to do well is immense. Shortly after starting the apprenticeship I had an unexpected change in circumstances, and the support and extensions on work from all the teaching staff has meant that I was able to continue with the apprenticeship alongside my new caring role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I will attain a professional qualification which will open up many more opportunities for me in the future. The qualification and what I am learning on the course is ensuring I have all the skills and knowledge needed for professional registration at the end of the course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are annual team away days.
