Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
I am a Higher Level Teaching Assistant
I spent my days teaching phonics, computing, PSHE and Thrive wellbeing sessions

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really loved all the new learning, helping me with the job I have been doing for 20 years, refreshing ideas and giving fantastic insight into the help I can continue to give the children.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I developed my existing skills and learned so many more useful and supporting skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
To begin with, the support was very disappointing: 3 months, 4 different tutors, and no work marked or support offered. Once I got the final tutor, she was amazing and so very helpful and I really would not have done as well without her support.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I was given most of the morning off school to complete the required work. This was in no way anything like enough time, I spent a great many more hours in my own time to complete the L5 Operations Manager qualification.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
Once a tutor was sorted (three months into course) she was amazing.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I feel that now that I have the Thrive Wellbeing Practitioner qualification, I am able to help young people at school who have varying mental health, learning and sensory needs.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
Not really as I work in a school. I get together with other staff from time to time.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Norfolk County Council to a friend?

Yes

Why?

The support was good, I had several check-ins with staff at NCC.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Norfolk County Council?

Go for it, but be aware that however many hours the course suggests it will take, double it, there is so much help and support on offer to use.
