Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

The one-day STEM to law open day at Winston Taylor provided insight into the firm’s key sectors, recent merger, culture and approach to commercial law. The day involved presentations on commercial awareness, the vacation scheme application process and the skills required to succeed as a trainee solicitor. It also incorporated a trainee panel featuring individuals who transitioned into law from STEM backgrounds, learning how their transferable skills apply to legal practice.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

Gaining insight into the firm’s business and potential career opportunities was both engaging and informative. I developed a clearer understanding of how the firm operates, its key practice areas and how its merger supports its strategic growth. Hearing directly from trainees, particularly those from STEM backgrounds, helped me appreciate the different pathways into law and the transferable skills valued in the profession. The experience strengthened my interest in pursuing a career as a commercial solicitor.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture and general atmosphere were extremely positive, welcoming and supportive. Everyone I interacted with seemed genuinely enthusiastic about their work and enjoyed being part of the firm. The trainees and professionals were approachable, friendly and willing to share their experiences, creating an open and collaborative environment. This gave me a strong impression of a workplace that values its people and encourages professional development.
