Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

The Winston Taylor Open Day event was extremely useful in developing a more varied insight into the baseline understanding of the firm that many attendees would have possessed. Specifically, beginning the day hearing from a Partner to get a strategic insight into the firm’s sectors of focus going towards and why those sectors possess opportunities was very engaging. This, alongside hearing from Trainees, Associates and gaining practical tips from Graduate Recruitment, meant that the Open Day provided holistic insights and prospectives from all areas of life at Winston Taylor.

How would you rate the structure of the insight

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

Graduate Recruitment provided a clear overview of the range of opportunities available for individuals at all stages of their journey towards a legal career. The insights into what the team are looking for when reading applications was also very useful, especially the more practical advice of how to structure the work experience section of the application for example, or how to approach the written response questions.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The ‘Demystifying Commercial Awareness’ session was particularly useful in demonstrating the steps a prospective trainee should take to develop an effective commercial awareness. Specifically for me, when developing my commercial awareness in the future, I have learned from the Open Day event the importance of forming my own opinion on the commercial developments that I am researching. This is a skill I am going to proactively develop going forwards.

Take advantage of the various insight events and open days that the firm provides. Having attended an in-person event and various virtual webinars and networking events hosted by Winston Taylor, I now feel I have built up a holistic view of the firm, its priority areas in the legal market and its culture. This is something I would recommend to other applicants.
