Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

This was an incredibly enjoyable insight day which involved a series of talks covering varying aspects of the firm's work, culture and graduate recruitment process. The day began with an overview of the firm and its recent merger, delving into its market-leading practices and the sectors it works in. This was followed by some insights into the firm's commitment to sustainability, pro bono and DEI. We then had some really useful and engaging talks by the Graduate Recruitment team and a few of the firm's trainees, who gave insights into how to approach commercial awareness and more broadly what life at the firm looks like. The day ended with some useful application tips and a practice area overview (Disputes & Investigations).

How would you rate the structure of the insight

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

The graduate recruitment team made it really clear about all the potential roles available, from insight events to vacation schemes and training contracts. They demystified the application process, providing their top tips for success. In addition, the trainee panel gave a great insight into the general life of a trainee, and how they selected/were allocated their seats.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The session on commercial awareness definitely improved my understanding of it. It is an often confusing buzzword which I struggled to fully grasp, but the Open Day gave me a practical way to develop it and to apply it in interviews. I also learnt more about how to write successful applications, and properly tailor my written answers to different firms.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Everyone was really approachable and all the presenters were keen to answer any questions I had. The firm's emphasis on various inclusion and sustainability initiatives, along with its commitment to pro bono work, highlighted the firm's desire to make a positive impact and to actively involve itself in local communities.
