Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Kier Group?

very good- good investment into emerging talent and very good culture within teams. also the projects are interesting

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

communicating across the project teams and with subcontractors, creating progress reports weekly/ monthly about what is happening on site and what contractually was meant to be happening. relaying that to the team and producing mitigation measures. focussing on where possible to save time. i enjoy that i'm often put on multiple different projects so meet a lot of people and gain a lot of knowledge about how different things are built.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
given a fair amount of responsibility to push myself and definitely contribute meaningfully whilst still having support there if i need it.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

4/5
4- salary is competitive but for a grad living in london was challenging, sure out of london it's different. London living allowance is given to all graduates working in london which works out to an extra about 2.2k annually.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
5 very well, its clear the investment in the company for the younger generation and being pushed and supported to help me in the future.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
5- the formal training from our emerging talent scheme was really good, highlights and sharpens skills like public speaking and confidence which are definitely beneficial in everyday/ corporate life.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5
very good, would listen to everything i had to say if there was something negative and helped me sort it out. everyone i've worked with have been so supportive and patient especially in the early stages.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
know that for the construction industry the hours are slightly longer than other industries, but its rare that i'm asked to stay later than what im salaried for. its also made pretty clear that work is important but if there's something going on externally as a one off, managers will always support that. they also push for you to take your annual leave. think compared to a lot more construction companies its a lot more supportive and relaxed.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
very good, with my role i've been on quite a few different teams and all of them are super welcoming and if i do have any questions i am helped. the dynamic between people is just super supportive and collaborative and one that im quite proud to be a part of.

How would you rate Kier Group initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
also very good, all teams are very mixed and there is a large focus on inclusivity across the business.

How would you rate Kier Group CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
every project has social responsibility targets which all members of the team get involved doing. moving through may is a massive one that everyone really enjoys.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

would definitely recommend kier as i dont have much bad to say about it. I actually enjoy coming to work most days and enjoy working with the people around me. hearing about from friends how other companies operate i think makes me realise how good kier is in comparison in terms of supporting us, the culture, work life balance and the people/ management. And specifically how much investment they put into us (the graduates and those on the emerging talent scheme).

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

5/5
definitely matched my expectations, they expect a lot out of you but everything on the grad scheme pushes you to when you finish and have a lot more responsibility. its good aswell as you're in a cohort with others also recruited so have a good community of likeminded people.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Kier Group?

sounds cliche but just to be yourself. those interviewing will just as much want to see what you're like and how you'll fit into the company and team alongside hearing about your knowledge and qualifications. definitely prepare aswell though, the assessment day is heavy so plan and practice so you go in calm and the best form of yourself.
