Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a graduate software engineer, I join an engineering group that works on front-end or back-end of the Skyscanner website or app (also even more roles!). We have daily stand-ups where we discuss what we have done so far this week and what needs to be done. I am given important tasks and constant help which is the best balance between independence and security.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I am given the opportunity to work on important tasks independently, the team is always ready to help and give great feedback. This gives constant support and I can cherry pick the best approaches for my future endeavours

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
In our Graduate programme, we get bi-weekly meetings about our strengths and weaknesses and how to use them to our advantage.
A big thing is communicating when you are stuck and always asking questions. If you are not comfortable doing it in a big group setting, here you get a buddy in your team for further support.

The atmosphere in the company is otherworldly. Not only do you get constant support from talent team and your team but everyone around is ready to help asap with anything.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone is genuine, empathetic and driven. As Skyscanner's motto is "We care, always", it is very true that they care for both their employees and their users. There is constant work on making the app and website accessible to everyone.
