Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I work in a frontend team working on the homepage of the product. My day-to-day involves daily update meetings as well as one of many weekly calls to understand the high-level overview of the product. Every day I work independently or collaborate on challenging tasks to improve the product from an engineering or client point of view.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
From Day 1 I was working on vital features to add to the product. As I got more experienced I would get less supervision and more challenging tasks. Being given real responsibilities from the very beginning has driven my motivation and felt very rewarding. This created an environment in which I felt that my work is helpful and important.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Every day I'm exposed to new knowledge or new unencountered problems. I am constantly challenged and given sufficient resources to quickly learn and complete the task. I have developed a vast set of skills, not only technical but interpersonal as well. Despite already learning a lot I am constantly faced with newer and more exiting challenges.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I have received a technical buddy who would be available to me at any time. He would guide me at all times, from helping me complete the tasks to in-depth knowledge sessions on the technologies used. On top of that, I received an Udemy license giving me access to an exhaustive source of courses. What is more, any team member (or even outside of the team) of mine was very helpful and eager to help.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture in my workplace is the richest I ever experienced. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are central to the company culture. Coming to the office is a pure pleasure, where everyone is very open and welcoming. From my experience and my colleagues, everyone has a sense of belonging in this company.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
So far it has been an amazing experience. Not only I gaining a wide variety of knowledge and experience every day, but I am also having a lot of fun while doing so. The culture, the people and the experience is amazing and I feel extremely lucky to start my career here.

If you are a person who is very eager for exciting opportunities and would also enjoy working there - join Skyscanner. The work can be sometimes challenging, but with the amount of support, it's impossible to get overwhelmed. I believe this is one of the best opportunities I have heard of, compared to my other friends' placements.
