Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I start the day with a standup, a team meeting at 9 and then tutoring sessions, a meeting or two and the rest is working on tasks either alone or pairing with a senior engineer. Often the day would end with a trip to pub or a restaurant. I ought not to forget about a mandatory ping pong game after lunch!
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Quite a lot. Initially the tasks were a bit more conservative, but I was constantly pushing the limits and after only two months I was already working on tickets on my own. It was a bit intimidating at first, but I get a lot of support from everyone whenever I need it.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Plenty! The company puts strong emphasis on collaboration and self development. I have learnt plethora of languages and technical tools, but also discovered how to take my soft skills to another level and explore my strengths. I get plenty of help from my manager, buddy and mentor and I can always reach out to them, no matter the issue.

Just enough. There was no pressure to use it if I did not want it, but also the people were always there.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The best, there is literally no better place than Skyscanner. The company puts a great emphasis on culture and having worked at 3 different companies before, no workplace comes close. I feel supported, treated with care and there is a strong feeling of belonging.

What advice would you give to others applying to Skyscanner
Make sure you make the most out of what the company offers. Use the resources (tutoring 121 meetings, senior employees, initiatives, internal university, etc.) to the maximum to leverage your self development. They want you to make the most out of company and everyone is willing to help you, no matter the issue.
