Assisting with Audit Procedures:
Testing Controls: You might help test the effectiveness of a client's internal controls, for example, by reviewing samples of transactions to ensure they were properly authorised and recorded.
Substantive Testing: This could involve tasks like vouching (checking transactions against supporting documents), tracing (checking documents to ledgers), or performing reconciliations. For instance, you might help reconcile bank statements or verify balances with third parties.
Data Analysis: Using audit software or Excel to analyse client data, identify trends, or flag unusual items for further investigation.
Documentation and File Management:
Preparing Working Papers: A significant part of audit involves documenting the work performed, findings, and conclusions. You'll learn to prepare and organise audit working papers, ensuring they are clear, concise, and meet Deloitte's standards.
Client Information Requests: Assisting in compiling and organising information requested from the client.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
Working with Seniors and Managers: You'll report to more experienced team members (e.g., Audit Seniors, Managers) who will guide you, review your work, and provide feedback.
Internal Meetings: Participating in team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and upcoming tasks.
Client Interaction (Supervised): While direct client interaction might be limited initially, you may be involved in sending requests for information or following up on queries under supervision.
Learning and Development:
Understanding the Audit Cycle: Gaining a holistic view of the audit process from planning to completion.
Deloitte Methodologies and Tools: Becoming familiar with Deloitte's proprietary audit methodologies, software, and internal resources.
Industry Knowledge: Learning about the client's business, industry, and the specific risks they face.
Professional Skills: Developing crucial professional skills such as attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and effective communication.
Ad-hoc Tasks:
You might be asked to perform various administrative tasks that support the audit team, such as preparing meeting materials, organising documents, or conducting preliminary research.
