Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role was to develop of two and maintenance of two intraday trading algorithms; one for month ahead gas futures and the other for half hour power products. Day to Day tasks was mainly quantitative analysis and research and development. Constantly testing out ways to model the markets the algorithms are involved in and optimising trade entries and exits.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given lots of responsibility by implementing company used trading algorithms that traded real money.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt many new skills, such as market understanding and python coding. I have also developed my presentation skills, via chairing weekly meetings on the algorithms to senior people, and my quantitative abilities via developing probabilistic models.

My manager was very supportive throughout the year. She would always have your back and help you find the answers when you were not sure how to go about a process. I had further support from the wider team, constantly helping out and giving their expertise.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the culture very welcoming and kind. As long as you demonstrated that you worked hard, you had a lot of freedom.

I loved my placement. I could not have asked for a better role. It was a very nice way to be introduced into the sector I want to build my career in.
