Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?

Generally good however the amount of graduates compared to the amount of work they have available to give out to those graduate is disproportionate. When you eventually get a role it is interesting, however the on-boarding time can take quite a while and the time it takes to get access to different things including software can be long. All in all however it is a good experience once you get properly started.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

Analysing the root cause of problems on current aircraft and finding or proposing potential solutions. There is no hands on work but I enjoy the fact that I have a real world impact to people who can live locally or in a different country.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
You can work flexi hours, which is more than 37 hours a week but not overtime, which you can then use for either extra pay or extra days off. Can also be used in case of emergencies if you just can't make it one day or something like that. Takes the stress off of being in at exactly the right hour and leaving more flexibly.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

3/5
I'm gaining a lot of knowledge however I don't know if the work culture here would be the same as other companies. This isn't a bad thing but whether or not it prepares me for my future career well is unclear.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

4/5

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

4/5
Always have someone to go talk to if I need, although I feel like a bit of training related to the role you're going into could be useful as otherwise you're just thrown in there and learn on the go, which also isn't a bad thing but might not be for everyone.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
With flexi hours it's easier to be able to balance after work activities and resting since you are flexible on when you can come in and leave so long as you are here during core hours and do your 37 hours a week. Makes it easier to do less hours in one day where you want to go out, then catch up those hours the following day.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
Great general atmosphere, bit strange for some to be working at different sites than where their managers or sometimes their entire teams are but it's not always a bad thing.

How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

4/5
Only reason it isn't 5 stars is because it is a defence company, dual nationals can't join certain programmes or projects, but that's not BAE's fault.

How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Good pay, interesting work opportunities in terms of projects, flexible work life balance and at least for myself, a good relationship with colleagues.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

3/5
Was not sure what to expect as there wasn't really much information and you're thrown kind of into whatever they have room for, but that's not to say the role was bad.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?

Put any work you did at university forwards, group projects, solo projects or assignments and modules, it's not very necessary to have work experience especially for a graduate job as long as you show the required skills and attributes in your work at university.
