Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role offers exposure to a wide range of opportunities and experiences across the business. No two days are exactly the same, as there are many different areas and projects that you can get involved in depending on your interests and development goals. This variety allows me to learn about different aspects of the organisation, build new skills, and gain a broad understanding of the networking industry while exploring areas that interest me most.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, real deadlines, real projects, real expectations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, I have developed a range of new skills during my placement. As I am still in the early stages of the role, much of my focus has been on learning and building my technical knowledge. Through platforms such as Percipio and HPE's internal training resources, I have been developing my understanding of networking concepts, technologies, and the HPE networking product portfolio.
In addition to networking, I have also had access to coding and technical training, which has allowed me to begin developing skills that are increasingly valuable across the technology industry. One of the aspects I enjoy most is the variety of learning opportunities available. There is strong support for personal development, and employees are encouraged to explore areas that interest them and align with their career goals.
Overall, I have significantly expanded my technical knowledge and learning skills, while gaining a much better understanding of the networking industry and the technologies used within HPE.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a great deal of support throughout my placement from my manager, mentors, colleagues, and the wider early careers network. There was always someone available to offer guidance, answer questions, or provide advice whenever I needed it.
At the same time, the placement encouraged a high level of independence and self-motivation. To get the most out of the experience, you need to be proactive, take initiative, and be comfortable tackling new challenges. Often, you are given a task or learning objective and trusted to research, explore, and work towards a solution yourself before seeking help if needed.
This balance of support and autonomy has been one of the most valuable aspects of the placement. While it can sometimes feel challenging or even daunting, it has helped me develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and the ability to learn independently. The support is always there when needed, but there is also strong encouragement to take ownership of your own development and make the most of the opportunities available.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

I have genuinely loved being part of the company. The atmosphere is friendly, inclusive, and incredibly supportive. Being involved in the Early Careers Committee has been one of the best parts of my experience, as it has allowed me to meet people from different teams and contribute to initiatives that support other early careers colleagues.
What stands out most is the level of support available. Whether it is mentors offering advice, managers helping me develop my skills, or fellow interns and graduates sharing experiences and learning together, there is always someone willing to help. The environment encourages growth, learning, and collaboration, which has made me feel confident, motivated, and excited to come to work every day.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. While the role has been challenging at times and has pushed me outside of my comfort zone, that is one of the reasons I have found it so rewarding. The work has exposed me to complex technologies, real business projects, and opportunities to solve problems that have significantly developed both my technical and professional skills.
Throughout the placement, I have been continuously learning, whether through hands-on experience, support from colleagues, or formal training. The challenges I have faced have helped build my confidence, knowledge, and ability to think critically. Rather than simply completing tasks, I have felt that I have been making meaningful contributions while developing skills that will benefit me throughout my career.
Combined with the supportive culture, excellent mentorship, and strong early careers network, the experience has been both educational and enjoyable. Overall, I have greatly enjoyed my internship and would highly recommend the experience to others considering a similar opportunity.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Hewlett Packard Enterprise to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise

My advice would be to be enthusiastic, curious, and willing to learn. HPE offers a huge range of opportunities, but you'll get the most out of the experience if you're proactive and eager to get involved. Don't be afraid to ask questions, take on challenges, and step outside your comfort zone, as that's where a lot of the learning happens.
It's also worth doing some research before applying. Understanding HPE's values, business areas, and leadership demonstrates genuine interest and can help you stand out. Knowing who the CEO is certainly won't hurt either!
Most importantly, work hard and make the most of the people around you. The colleagues, mentors, managers, interns, and graduates at HPE are incredibly supportive, and there are countless opportunities to learn from their experience. If you embrace those opportunities with a positive attitude, you'll find the experience both rewarding and enjoyable.
