Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Everyday we were greeted and welcomed, and were given breakfast before being briefed about what our day would entail. Then we would start our first session which could involve hearing from workers at the firm or we could have been asking questions to a panel to broaden our knowledge. We then would have lunch which was always quite informative because staff at the form would join us and give us insight and answer our questions.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was delivered exceptionally because most of the roles we learnt about were over lunch so it was in a natural setting and was not very boring and stressful. I think it was eye opening to understand and learn about each different role in a firm and how each is equally important for the firm to function smoothly.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, I have improved my writing skills as we learnt how to draft a legal document: I think this was valuable because it alllowed me to understand how to write succintly with clarity.
I also learnt how to approach an interview with the STAR technique which I found useful as I normally struggle with interviewing.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Before I came to this firm, I had an idea of what I thought I law firm to be in my head- very rigid and strict. However, this law firm’s atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming- I learnt that they have multiple events and fun little things like cupcakes to brighten up the days of the people who work there and it’s the little things like that that made this firm’s culture stand out.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I first enjoyed meeting new people with similisr career interests as me. This insight was my first ever insight into law and I think it was very good because not only were the sessions informative and interactive but the times where we were not learning were also valuable as I was able to network and socialize with people that I would
Not have the opportunity to socialize with if I were not on the program.
