Rural Intern Review

Rural surveying is a highly varied role - my days involve combing office-based work with regular time spent on farms and estates. No day nor job is exactly the same and the internship has provided me with valuable insight into many of the services Carter Jonas offer. In Rural these have included selling farms and managing viewing days, managing estates and advising clients on rural planning - just to name a few.

As interns, we have been given the same level of responsibility as new graduates. From day one, we have been trusted to work on real client projects rather than just theoretical examples - making the experience more rewarding and valuable. Having been given these opportunities, this has also helped me build confidence in speaking with clients and carrying out site visits.
Overall the experience has allowed me to gain a much better understanding of what a career in rural surveying would involve.

I have strengthened my ability to work independently, manage a 9-5 workload and take ownership of work responsibilities. My confidence in communicating with clients, conducting site visits and working alongside colleagues on a range of tasks has significantly increased.

At Carter Jonas you are given an ambassador, who is a member of your specific team. They will support you with any queries you may have, but in my experience the whole Rural team were happy to answer any questions, take me out on site visits and catch up socially over lunch or drinks after work!

I would say Carter Jonas' culture is aligned with its values of being approachable, effective, and ambitious. Everyone I have met has been friendly and supportive, creating an environment where I have felt comfortable asking lots of questions to further my understandings of the industry!

I have really enjoyed my internship at Carter Jonas, and it has confirmed that rural surveying is the career path I want to pursue in the future.
