Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role mainly involved writing MATLAB code for models/simulations and prototype tools.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a decent amount of responsibility since my co-workers trusted me and the ideas that I brought to the table. In most of my tasks I was given free reign to come up with ideas for them, develop/implement these ideas, and then gather feedback to improve my work further.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

The culture here is excellent for learning networking skills since it is easy to reach out to other people in the company, even if you don't work in the same department. I also further developed my problem solving skills since different projects sometimes require completely different approaches depending on the tools used.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I had loads of support from my line manager, technical coordinator, and teammates during my placement. We would have meetings to discuss my progress and if I needed any help in any way. whenever I did need help they were swift to help me themselves or point me in the direction of the right person who could.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I am glad I chose MBDA over other companies, the impression I get from other companies is that its easy to get stressed, however at MBDA I think its quite hard to get stressed since everything is so flexible. The company gives loads of support for any kind of problem you run into. The work was also pretty fun at times and my co-workers are all great people.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend MBDA to a friend?

Yes

What advice would you give to others applying to MBDA

MBDA job postings describe a lot of the topics you would be working with in that role, so do some research and make notes before submitting your application since they seem to like it when you at least know a little bit about the topics in the job postings. If you get to the assessment centre stage of the recruitment process even if you don't get the role they will send you detailed feedback which can help a lot with your next application (at least they did when I applied).
