Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I was in the European social & influencer marketing team for the mobile department (that includes mobiles, laptops, tablets, buds and watches). My team and I looked after the social media channel postings and assets and influencer partnerships across 16+ European subsidiaries. It involved a lot of reporting of numbers based on social performance of the different markets and a lot of communication between all the markets and us at the European office and then compiling that data and presenting to the head office in Suwon, Korea.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I believe so, I was involved in a lot of important campaigns that the team was working on and it also involved me collecting information that was vital for us to go ahead with a lot of tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I believe I have learnt a lot of new skills:
1) communication: I had to do a lot of cross country communication with 16+ markets on a daily basis and it really made me realise how efficiently I should be doing so.
2) project management: managing several tasks and projects at the same time was difficult in the beginning however over time I definitely got the hang of it.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I believe from the HR and people team I received a lot of support, however I think with my team I didn’t feel that sort of support all the time. And I believe we lacked communication sometimes as everyone has really busy schedules however not feeling welcome sometimes was really hard to deal with.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

I think if I speak for my team in general it was a pretty rigid environment. Not everyone is friendly or wants to get to know you as you would assume, or include you in conversations or lunches with the team. It is difficult not to mention that feeling like the black sheep or imposter syndrome lasted way longer than it should’ve and still does. Further support and inclusiveness is much appreciated.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed all of the knowledge and all of the fun projects and tasks I got to work on. Other than the personal relationships with my team and my manager which was super surface level. I believe it was a great learning experience.

I would say you need to be a super proactive person. Don’t try to take things at heart that are sometimes too hard to deal with and learn to cope with a rigid working environment but also be super on top working on various tasks at the same time!
