Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

The main aim of my role is to drive earned coverage across the mobile and visual divisions for Samsung Europe. Day to day, this involves a wide range of tasks, whether that’s seeding devices to media and journalists for review or organising multi‑market events in other countries. I also support regular reporting for senior leadership and communicate frequently with European markets to ensure work is delivered efficiently.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, definitely. It often surprised me how much responsibility I was given. Although at times it made me feel out of my depth, I used that feeling as a driving force to grow my skillset and increase my proactivity. A strong example of this was producing a Samsung Thought leadership article on my own, which was then distributed across European newsrooms and published in third‑party tech publications.

-Event management
-Organisation
-Time management
-Self‑confidence

As well as many more!

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received regular weekly 1‑2‑1 meetings with my line manager to cover whats going well and any pain points during my progress. Additionally, I received a lot of support whenever I needed it outside 1-2-1's. A personal example of this was presenting publicly, my manager supported me, offered guidance, and even provided the opportunity for training.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The best way to describe Samsung’s atmosphere is through the Korean word pali‑pali, which translates to “quick” or “hurry.” I believe the business, especially marketing, works in a fast, creative and collaborative way. It would also be narrow‑minded not to acknowledge the strong Korean influence across the company. With the workforce largely split between English and Korean speakers, it creates a great opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures — I now even find myself bowing to Korean seniors.
