Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at RSM?

RSM's application process was very warm and supportive. Joining the team then showed how this is the culture embedded throughout the organisation. It is a great company to work for with lots of support to explore career options throughout RSM and not just stuck in one team.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

Moving into the technical team allowed me to explore more complex areas of accounting and try new things. I was originally in the financial reporting team but was supported to move across when I showed an interest in more technical areas. I am responsible for helping to prepare technical memos and accounting schedules for clients helping to explain and area of accounting more complex such as group reorganisations.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
Being given the opportunity to express the work I am interested on and getting opportunities to work on these projects shows that the company want me to enjoy they work I am doing.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

3/5
I think the remuneration is adequate. I think the sacrifice of pay is made up by the culture within the firm. You have the opportunity to buy extra holiday days which is good. The best perks and benefits are accessible once you qualify.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

4/5
The opportunity to move teams allows you to explore other areas you might want to work in. This allows you to explore areas and decide what areas you would like to specialise in.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

3/5
There are opportunities to develop new skills and work on existing skills. Management is always happy to have discussions around how a project is going and what can be done to develop you further.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

3/5
Support from buddies and line managers is great. Have also felt supported and free to say how I really feel and not to get any backlash from this. I have dealt with HR a few times and they were lovely however, there was less support given when serious complains where made. The team was happy to have a feedback call to understand how someone could feel better supported in the future.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
Work life balance is great. My manager will allow me to start an hour early to leave early if I have a commitment on. The expectation is as long as you ask ahead and complete the hours in the day you are allowed to be a bit flexible. These rules apply more as one offs then everyday changing hours depending on personal plans but feel supported so I can still enjoy hobbies and a balance around work.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
The culture is a lovely place to work and is RSM's selling point. I think everyone I have spoken to in the firm has always been super friendly and extremely warm.

How would you rate RSM initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

3/5
They provide information around all equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility which can be easily accessible. There are often posts on the intranet about events happening but I still think they could do more to make people aware or make all people feel included.

How would you rate RSM CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5
They do provide an additional day off work which can be used towards volunteering for a charity. There are a lot of charity opportunity and events which also are completed locally so local charities can be supported.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend RSM to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I think it is a supportive place to work and a wide range of jobs to work on.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

4/5
I completed a placement year so had a much clearer understanding of what the role includes

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to RSM?

Understand the job role is key. Many applicants haven't sent the time understand who RSM are or what the role includes.
