Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Role has included systems engineering, including righting requirements and communicating with stakeholders to refine and distribute those requirements. I have also taken part in simulation, which included simulating different scenarios and reporting out on the results to stakeholders.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, as I have gotten more experienced I have been given more responsibility in each of my roles, but have never been put under too much pressure.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt more soft skills, in terms of communication and presentation skills as well as improving my time management skills and the ability to prioritise work in certain situations. I have also had some technical learning in terms of simulation software and physical test equipment.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

The support has been great from my managers and the wider team. They will always help when I have any questions and have offered their support with my work. The support from the early careers team has been slightly harder, as often managers have had little guidance with having an undergraduate which meant sometimes I felt a bit left behind and managers weren't sure how to train me/what to do next with me.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Company culture is really good at JLR. There is a big ethos on clear and honest communication and a lot of understanding between colleagues no matter level in the company. I have never felt uncomfortable having a conversation with a colleague at any level it has been a nice place to come into work.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my placement, from the opportunities to grow and learn professionally to the people I have been able to meet. JLR provides a well rounded experience for university students to grow and feel comfortable.
