I work within the Vehicle Health Infotainment team, developing and testing an in-car health application using Android Studio and Kotlin. The app displays real-time vehicle health data to improve driver awareness and support proactive maintenance.

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility during my placement. I contributed directly to both the development and testing of the vehicle health Android application, taking ownership of specific features and test cases.
I was trusted to implement functionality in Kotlin, debug issues, and validate changes on hardware, as well as actively participate in team discussions and Agile ceremonies. This allowed me to develop both my technical skills and confidence working in a real production environment.

Yes, I have developed several new skills and strengthened existing ones during my placement. I gained hands-on experience in Kotlin development within Android Studio, improving my ability to build and maintain application features.
I also developed my understanding of Agile working, including collaborating effectively within a team, participating in sprint activities, and managing tasks. In addition, I enhanced my skills in testing and debugging, as well as my ability to follow and interpret requirements to deliver functional and high-quality features.

I received strong support and guidance throughout my placement. I had direct mentors as well as two line managers who supported me consistently across the year.
They provided regular feedback, helped me overcome challenges, and guided my development both technically and professionally, which allowed me to build confidence and take on more responsibility over time.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement it was one of the best experiences of my university years. It gave me the opportunity to work on real-world projects, develop valuable technical skills, and be part of a supportive and collaborative team, which made it both rewarding and enjoyable.
