Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

International Insights, Analytics and Commercial Operations team. Worked on Data Analytics & Interpretation, focusing on commercial datasets and territory-level sales data. Helped with UX Design while creating an interactive website for our team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, improved my organisation and time management skills, while also learning more about the commercial side of pharma and understanding how insights and analytics can be best used to improve patient impact. Furthermore, it helped me navigate ambiguity and fluidity of working in corporate environments, and re-prioritising work on a day-to-day basis.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Received a lot of support from my line manager and from others on the team. Another was supportive and guided me through a lot of the work and gave tips on navigating the corporate environment at Vertex. My line manager was helpful and supported me through my data analytics projects.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Collaborative and helpful work environment with support from the managers and wider team. The internship allowed me to work on meaningful work and contribute to the team in an impactful manner. Everyone at the Vertex office is friendly and willing to help interns understand the different departments and settle into the office.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

It has been a great learning experience working within a pharma company while contributing meaningfully to the team through my project work. Over the 10 weeks, I have developed various transferable skills that will help me throughout my career, and I have built good connections with my colleagues at Vertex.
