Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Insight was fantastic. RPC allowed access to a breadth and enormity of ongoing cases. My input was valued and used by the teams I worked within.
Day-to-day involved a variety of hands on work and vacation scheme specific tasks, such as partner Q&As, evening socials, client meetings, D&I talks, coffee mornings, networking sessions and considerably more.
My practical understanding of law and commercial law firms was bolstered immeasurably by this scheme.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
RPC ensured students engaged in a seat in both their insurance and commercial teams, allowing for a varied insight into the types of roles available at the firm.
Partners were extremely happy to chat about their duties and teams, often unprompted, which helped elucidate some of the trickier details of the business which might otherwise be lost to oversight or fear of interrupting a solicitor's busy schedule.
This aspect of the scheme was excellent.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
This vacation scheme boosted and fostered a number of skills.
I learned how to differentiate client and colleague interactions.
My ability to analyse and provide insight on various statutes and case law was helped enormously.
Outside of practical solicitor skills, RPC encouraged students to write blog posts as part of the scheme which helped consolidate what I had learned and allowed me to express skills from my undergraduate degree which would have otherwise gone to waste.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
RPC was far and away the friendliest working environment I have ever experienced.
From trainee to partner level, every single individual I met was happy and enthusiastic to engage in conversation, extremely helpful in regard to queries and problems and highly praising of RPC as an employer too.
In both weeks, the teams I sat in held their own social nights independent of the scheme, and it was extremely evident how tight knit everyone was with one another.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I loved the insight. Not only did I learn an inordinate amount about the law and the career of commercial solicitor, but every aspect of the scheme beyond the work itself was underscored by friendliness, encouragement and conversation.
I would highly recommend this insight to anyone considering pursuing a career in commercial law, and I would highly recommend RPC as a firm in the same regard.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RPC
Firstly, consider the expertise RPC proffers from - its commercial and insurance practises are very important.
Look at its transformation pillars.
But beyond the nitty-gritty, consider why you would value RPC as an employer. It's a lifelong career and the culture of the firm is of utmost important to itself and all those who work there - why would you benefit from that environment and why them from you?
