Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?

My experience at BAE is overall positive. It is a good place to work, you get looked after and opportunities to develop.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

Break down and solve complex issues to implement new and innovative technologies to enable new projects.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
Within your team you feel like you can contribute meaningfully, and are given the opportunity to prove that you are capable. I have been given nice comments when progressing well. In terms of impact amongst the company, I don't feel like I have contributed, this is because I haven't been here long enough to create something that has been implemented in a product.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
There are lots of perks to working for this company, you get paid fairly, discounts and even a share scheme.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

4/5
This is definitely a great role to be developing in, you are supported, given opportunities and have access to training along the way. It does push me out of my comfort zone, in terms of leading discussions/presenting so it also massively improves your interpersonal skills (if you want that).
I do think it is lacking the technical development, I am improving as a software engineer but I equally I am not able to use what I have learnt at university to develop my programming skills. This is due to the nature of what I have been assigned to work on, but there is opportunity in the business for it, at some point.. The issue here is, other software engineering roles would probably expect you to be a really strong programmer given the role, company and industry.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

4/5
Lots of support and offers to go on training often. The role equally lets me use a lot of skills to engineer software, but not some of the technical ones that I would like to be developing as well.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

5/5

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
Very flexible company to be working for, work from home, days off. As long as you are able to achieve your best work, the company will support your ways of working, given you attend the office a couple times a week.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
I don't have any issues in the workplace. It is not my preferred working atmosphere as it often feels like you are working with other strangers in the same room. The company is large though so it's to be expected, everyone is nice!
There is a hybrid working policy, but encourage to be mostly on site if you can.

How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5

How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Good money.
Opportunity to develop skills all the time.
Routes for progression.
Hybrid and flexible working.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

4/5

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?

If you are offered the role, expect to be waiting a long time before you actually start with minimal communication., but they do check in now and again. They will not share a job description with you, but this is mostly due to the graduate scheme as you could be placed anywhere by the time you start.
