Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Supporting the Universal Pictures UK brand marketing team in the planning and delivery of nationwide film marketing campaigns - working cross-functionally with teams specialising in strategy, advertising, paid and organic social, trade marketing, creative servicing and brand partnerships. The role could be very varied, but I really enjoyed this as an opportunity to gain the broadest possible experience in how film marketing campaigns come together.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Lots! It was a great opportunity to take ownership of campaign activations across organic social, media partnerships, creative briefings, brand partnerships and even managing the UK marketing campaign for one of the technical releases, Midwinter Break.

I have - I gained a strong understanding of how marketing campaigns come together. I also developed strong task management skills in an often varied and fast-paced environment.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Lots - I had a thorough, three-week handover period with the outgoing intern before me meaning I had more than enough time to get to grips with the role before they left. My manager, and the broader team, also consistently expressed they were always available and open to any questions. I always felt very supported if I had questions or concerns.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Great! Even as an intern, I always felt included as part of the wider team in meetings, brainstorms and socials. There were plenty of opportunities for networking and development. The benefits, including the free barista coffee in the office, made it an even nicer work environment. The company's annual Cares Day, in which we volunteered time to local community projects, also helped foster a positive responsible culture and atmosphere.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

This internship had been my dream grad job and it absolutely lived up to expectations. I'd always wanted to work in film, and the sheer amount of visibility and learning opportunity I've had here has been incredibly rewarding. I've loved the slate of films I've worked across too. I'm so sad to leave when it ends!!!!
