Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?

A maternalistic company, geared towards employee development, the graduate scheme has 20% protected time toward non home team related tasks such as training and innovation tasks. So a great place to start a career.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

My home teams responsibilities are to support designers in creating beautiful cars by communicating to them the requirements from Engineering. The studio engineering team act as mediators between the design department and the rest of the company, fighting to keep design at the forefront of what drives the cars through to production. This involves interpreting and recreating CAD, innovating new solutions to achieve challenging designs.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

4/5
There is a high level of tangibility, cars I have helped design will be on the road within the next year, within the design studio they get made in prototypes as we design them, this gives a sense of accomplishment. However, as a studio engineer you are a support role and it can feel at times like you are not the innovator but helping the innovator achieve what they want. Thus, it can feel like it lacks creativity at times.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
This is the best paid job out of all my course mates, that is relevant to the field of study.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

4/5
I have a strong basis in a role within automotive if I want to continue in this industry. I have leant transferable skills across most design industries. Training I have received has empowered me as an individual and given me skills to help me lead in the future. However, a lot of the learnings and software I use is industry specific so I feel like it limits me in that sense.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
Development is great within this company and role

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

4/5
A strong focus on development, a very maternalistic company overall.

How is your work-life balance?

4/5
At times I find myself doing overtime as I want to impress, this may be a personal issue though. I know this is worse in other design companies and consultancies I have worked in where this is expected and unrewarded.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

5/5
A very inclusive, diverse culture

How would you rate JLR initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

5/5
A lot of effort put into creating communities within JLr and celebrating cultures and raising awareness around key issues.

How would you rate JLR CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

4/5
Given 2 days paid to volunteer. Environmentally the company does seem to greenwash more than pioneer. Associations to IDF is also a negative

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Maternalistic company aiming to support you.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

3/5
Poor communication as to what to expect. Had to battle to get what was offered at times.

When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to JLR?

Be authentically yourself, show you are a problem solver and team player. They can train the rest.
