Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I carry out portfolio administrative work and manage projects. This includes financial management of programmes and evaluating the benefits and values as they evolve, risk management across the portfolio to ensure escalation to senior leaders as well as the managing lower-level delivery risks within my project. I estimate, plan and allocate resources according to the project/portfolio priorities. I have manage several dependencies within the portfolio and manage the challenges and prioritisation of project versus business and operational needs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It's really useful being able to learn key concepts and put them into practice within the workplace. It has taught me that it requires pragmatism in approach to ensure nuances are accounted for and the best results are tailored to the situation at hand.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Many new skills have been learnt, particularly stakeholder management, risk management, the business environment, strategic thinking and alignment, resource management, financial tracking.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It was well structured when I first joined but with a few restructures we finally have clarity around project roles and their remit through formally establishing a PMO function within our business unit

A fair amount, I have been able to voice where I would like to grow and develop, received formal and informal mentoring, been able to join and lead employee resource groups.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have always been able to express where I have concerns, challenges and difficulties throughout my apprenticeship and been able to find mitigations to receive support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Without it I wouldn't have the knowledge and benchmark of what the professional standard is in my line of work as organisations tend to have their adaptations. I have been able to improve current practices within the business through the knowledge of my apprenticeship.

Why?
My experience has been positive for the most part, there are good benefits, the pay is okay, there areas where you can create your own opportunities and personal development is encouraged.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?
Tailor your CV to the asks of the job description, it is often telling of the skills and experience they are seeking for that role as the roles can sometimes be quite niche given that Pearson is the only educational FTSE 100 company.
