Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I provide support to line managers on employee relations cases and complete basic HR admin tasks. I also partake or lead projects in learning & development of employees and engagement based on the data we receive from surveys, activation of company in-house tools etc.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Very much. I have a role where I can use my best skills while reaching out to others to help me improve on my weaknesses and lack of experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Presenting to dozens of people on a regular basis has definitely helped me with my presenting and project skills. It has made understand accountability more alongside project management as I have lead my own project which involves presenting to dozens of people a couple of times a month on an original project with original content that I created. Other areas of skill development include higher attention to detail, being more efficient and understanding how data is used to make effective changes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I know who to contact for a certain issue and have a clear idea on the next steps for the next couple of months which gets updated every review meeting with my business coach and apprenticeship coach.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

A lot of support is provided. Sometimes even proactively where I am asked if a certain upcoming project or task may affect my apprenticeship so they can work around it. I am regularly asked about any improvements that can be made too.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I think the biggest support an apprentices could ask for is being easy to reach for questions and flexibility in task completion and they provide both.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It makes me reassess things and understand the ecoysystem and bigger picture. It helps me understand how my role fits impacts the organisation which then allows me to make better decisions in terms of ideas and new projects I present to my team. It also helps prepare me for areas I am not directly involved in like recruitment.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have not really chased that up as I am with a team where most are new (under 3 years). I know of a few things I can get involved in but again it is about reaching out to other departments.

Why?

Welcoming from day one. Easy to reach out to. Proactive in their support. Amazing culture where people are relaxed and flexible and understand work-life balance.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson?

Try to understand Pearson's goals and be relaxed during the interview. Also, I experienced more of a conversation rather than an interview in my experience.
