Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I am responsible for leading and managing the coordination team, ensuring the effective planning, organisation, and delivery of operational activities. A key part of my role involves overseeing the BSc Paramedic placement programme within the North East Ambulance Service, where I maintain strong partnerships and ensure high-quality placement experiences for students.
I also lead the management and delivery of education across the trust. This includes core training programmes, apprenticeships, and the implementation and monitoring of annual mandatory training requirements, ensuring staff remain compliant, competent, and supported in their professional development.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I found the programme highly enjoyable and rewarding. It was delivered through Manchester Metropolitan University, but having a local cohort meant I could access the course without the need to travel, which made it far more manageable alongside my other commitments. One of the biggest benefits was being able to continue working while completing the apprenticeship, allowing me to apply my learning directly in practice.
The structure of the programme suited my learning style well, as it combined online learning with face-to-face teaching and practical application. This blend helped reinforce my understanding and ensured I could translate theory into real-world skills effectively.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Throughout the programme, I further developed my existing skills and built my confidence. It also equipped me with a strong foundation of knowledge that has supported my growth as a leader and enhanced my leadership capability.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
The structure of the programme was generally effective; however, at times it proved challenging, as assignment deadlines were often scheduled immediately after school holidays. This created additional pressure for the cohort and made it more difficult to balance academic work with personal and family commitments.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I received strong support from my employer throughout the programme. I was provided with one protected day per week to focus on the apprenticeship, which enabled me to manage my workload effectively. In addition, I benefited from a high level of peer support when completing assignments, and I was given additional time where needed to further support my development and progress.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
Staff from Manchester were approachable, supportive, and clearly committed to facilitating my development and successful completion of the qualification.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I feel that the qualification has supported me well in performing more effectively in my role. The programme provided a strong foundation of knowledge that has enhanced my leadership capability, while also allowing me to build on my existing skills and confidence. Being able to apply learning directly into practice through my role was particularly valuable, as it reinforced my understanding and improved my day-to-day performance.
The combination of online learning, face-to-face teaching, and practical application suited my learning style and enabled me to translate theory into real-world situations. In addition, the support from both the training provider and my employer, including dedicated study time and access to peer support, contributed significantly to my ability to engage with the programme and apply what I had learned effectively in the workplace.
Overall, the qualification has had a positive impact on my professional development and my ability to carry out my role with greater confidence and competence.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to North East Ambulance Service?

I would advise anyone applying to the North East Ambulance Service to take time to understand the values of the organisation and how they align with their own. It is a fast-paced and demanding environment, so being prepared for a varied and sometimes challenging workload is important, but it is also incredibly rewarding.
I would also encourage applicants to highlight their commitment to learning and development, as NEAS is very supportive of staff growth and provides excellent opportunities for training, education, and career progression. Being open to feedback, willing to work collaboratively, and showing a genuine passion for patient care will really help you succeed within the organisation.
