Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
Securing access and rights for utility companies, working on compensation claims for works in private land, identifying and engaging with landowners/stakeholders.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I thoroughly enjoy it. My work is interesting and varied, I am out the office quite a lot which is nice, and I have fantastic colleagues which make me look forward to coming to work everyday.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt so much in my first 8 months at CJ. I had no industry knowledge beforehand and am already managing my own schemes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
I have 12 1-week blocks over 2-years at Harper Adams University. It is spread out enough not to be too intense, and allows for my learning to be applied as I work. In work I am involved on multiple projects, allowing for a good breadth of experience.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I feel my I have a lot of knowledge around me in my team and am comfortable going to anyone with questions. They are receptive when I am under pressure at university, allowing me to focus on that when needed.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
Harper Adams University is a great institution, a real leader is rural land management.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
It is job specific and interesting. I believe it will make me a more rounder surveyor.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, we have many social events, whether it be a quiet drink after work, quarterly curry clubs, quarterly 'team days', twice-yearly graduate days, and more.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Carter Jonas to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I genuinely look forward to coming to work everyday, and this isn't always the case for people. The support is great, the grad network is extensive, the jobs are interesting and varied and the responsibility given to me makes me feel important.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Carter Jonas?

I applied for the infrastructure/rural divisions, therefore something to connect you to the countryside is worth including on the CV. Any experience in the property sector would be good, whether this be surveying, development, agency. Do your homework on the company and industry before interviews, really understand what surveying is about. The infrastructure grad scheme page on Carter Jonas was very informative.
