Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am multi skilled so I learn different areas of broadcasting. I do hub (ingesting media and uploading to servers), TD1 (directing), TD2 (sound and lighting), Graphics (creating pictures for LED walls and towers), Editing (creating news stories by editing pictures and audio) and Crew (going out to get footage or do lives). It changes day to day
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really love it. I’m so happy I made this decision instead of going to uni because I’ve met so many helpful and friendly people and the hands on experience has been really good. I’ve made loads of accomplishments in my time here and have so many opportunities to explore more regions and different aspects of the BBC. I really feel involved in the operations and I feel like I’m part of the BBC

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I have block learning so I spend some time at school then some time at my base. The course is broken into modules with assignments at the end of each so it’s well organised. At my base, I work with my mentor to make schedules and decide what I’m going to shadow and learn next
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel like some modules don’t relate to what I do in my role and it feels more like engineering than operating
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It’s a really good place to work filled with friendly people and there are so many opportunities to grow and develop as an employee and as person. It’s an amazing place to work because there’s opportunities to see different areas that you wouldn’t necessarily think were related to the BBC
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself and have a genuine passion for what you’re applying for and make sure to read the job description to know whether it’s what you really want to do.
