My role as an EDEN dairy technologist apprentice consists of working in various areas of production, assisting process technicians with their daily duties, attending meetings. During semesters, I work from home; attending online lectures for my college modules.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the dairy sector as a whole. The learning as well as the hands on aspect is very beneficial. However, I have been working for 8 months, and I still feel out of place, without having a direct impact on the company, almost like I am still shadowing. When the semester ends, I am sure I will be given more responsibility.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt the process of how milk is turned into cheddar cheese, the ingredients required, the by products formed and how they too can be manufactured and sold, as well as other products, such as butter and fresh milk. I have also learnt laws and regulations, pertaining to dairy and food in general.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure of learning could be improved. College block and online learning is very structured, but onsite, there is a lack of direction given past the surface level, and no real training programme is set out for EDEN Dairy technologists.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer. I receive reimbursements when making payments during college blocks and/or other work related trips, I have monthly 1 to 1 meetings with my manager, and whenever I need help from colleagues, there is always help provided.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Training provider gives structured lessons, additionally whenever you feel stuck with an assignment, and you reach out to them, they are always happy to give time to you and help. Additionally, our mentor performs meetings with us to assess our progression.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

A lot of what I learn from our training provider directly translates into the work I do onsite, however a lot of it doesn't.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
