Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I work in commercial real estate and am involved in a wide range of complex and commercially driven matters. My day‑to‑day role includes drafting and reviewing short-form contracts, marking up documents produced by solicitors acting for other parties, liaising with clients, and providing clear and timely updates as transactions progress.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I enjoy the programme overall and find it highly valuable. The degree apprenticeship offers a strong balance between academic study and practical experience, allowing me to apply legal theory directly to live commercial real estate matters. This has accelerated my technical development, commercial awareness, and confidence in a professional setting.
The main challenge lies in the university element being delivered entirely online. While this provides flexibility alongside full‑time work, it can make meaningful engagement more difficult, particularly in terms of discussion, interaction with tutors, and peer learning. A more interactive or blended approach would enhance the academic experience. Despite this, the programme remains demanding, engaging, and well aligned with my long‑term career development.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have developed a broad range of new and existing skills through the programme. From a technical perspective, I have significantly strengthened my commercial real estate knowledge, including drafting and reviewing leases and ancillary documents, marking up and negotiating documents received from other parties, and developing an understanding of risk, title, and asset management issues. Professionally, I have improved my client‑facing skills through regular liaison with clients, providing clear updates, managing expectations, and responding to time‑critical queries. I have also developed strong organisational and time‑management skills by balancing full‑time work with academic commitments, managing multiple matters concurrently, and working to tight deadlines. Overall, the programme has materially enhanced my technical competence, commercial awareness, and professional maturity.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The programme is well organised and well supported. I have a clear structure in place through a direct line manager, with whom I have regular weekly catch‑ups to discuss workload, development, and progress on the apprenticeship. This provides consistent supervision and support on a day‑to‑day basis.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
The Early Talent team are readily available to answer questions or address any concerns relating specifically to the programme, which has been particularly helpful. Overall, the level of structure and support makes expectations clear and ensures issues are dealt with promptly.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
I receive an appropriate level of support from the training provider, and the resources are there when needed. However, accessing that support can sometimes be challenging due to the course being delivered entirely online. There is limited personal interaction with teaching staff, and because you rarely meet anyone directly, it can feel impersonal at times. As a result, resolving queries often requires independently navigating online systems and support resources rather than having a clear, direct point of contact. While support does exist, greater visibility and ease of access to academic staff would improve the overall experience.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

2/5
To a limited extent. The qualification provides useful background knowledge and reinforces core legal principles, but it does not have a significant direct impact on my day‑to‑day performance in my role. The work I do is highly practical and transactional, and most of the skills required to perform effectively are developed through hands‑on experience in the workplace. While the academic learning is helpful for context and longer‑term development, it does not always align closely with the practical demands of my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are a number of extra‑curricular activities available at work. The firm actively facilitates and encourages my involvement in business development and networking events, which has been particularly valuable in helping me build confidence, improve my networking skills, and develop client‑facing experience at an early stage of my career. In addition to professional opportunities, there are also social activities, including a five‑a‑side football team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Yes, I would recommend Pinsent Masons LLP. It is a genuinely strong firm with a people‑focused and supportive culture, and the work is both interesting and high quality. I am exposed to complex, commercially driven matters at an early stage, which has accelerated my development and kept the work engaging. The firm also places clear value on training, inclusion, and long‑term career development, which creates a positive and motivating environment to work in.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?

I would advise applicants to be clear on why Pinsent Masons appeals to them specifically and to demonstrate a genuine interest in the firm’s work and sectors, rather than relying on generic applications. Showing commercial awareness, an understanding of the firm’s culture, and how its values align with your own is important. I would also recommend being open about a willingness to learn, take responsibility early, and engage with both the technical and people side of the role, as the firm places real emphasis on collaboration, development, and long‑term growth.
