Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
I work within the Banking and Finance team, supporting lawyers at all levels across a broad range of transactions including corporate lending, real estate finance and asset‑backed lending. Working as part of deal teams, I contribute to live transactions across multiple transactions, often to tight deadlines. My role spans all stages of a deal: I draft and review CP documentation, coordinate with clients and counterparties, and assist in managing conditions precedent and completion processes. I also have opportunities to assist our restructuring team with drafting security checklists and searches.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really enjoy my programme because of the variety of work I’m exposed to. I have the opportunity to support on a wide range of matters, which keeps the role engaging and helps me build a broad skill set. I find the work I do interesting and there are always opportunities for me to try new things. I also value the chance to get involved in the firm’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, as these allow me to contribute to meaningful projects outside my day‑to‑day work. Overall, I feel I have a good work–life balance, which makes the programme both enjoyable and sustainable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I’ve built greater confidence in drafting and reviewing legal documents, and I’ve improved my ability to manage transactions by coordinating with clients, lawyers and other stakeholders. I’ve also developed stronger organisational skills through handling conditions precedent, tracking progress and supporting completions.
In addition, I’ve enhanced my communication skills—both written and verbal—through regular client correspondence and team collaboration. The variety of work has also helped me become more adaptable and better at prioritising tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
The programme is well organised and structured, and I feel confident in the progress I’m making—I’m on track to complete my apprenticeship this summer. When I first joined, I was given a clear training log, which helped me understand what was expected of me and how my development would be monitored. Since then, the structure has remained consistent, with regular check‑ins and a clear pathway through each stage of the programme. Overall, the organisation has made it easy to stay focused and work steadily towards completing my qualification.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
I feel well supported by my employer. The team is always willing to answer questions, provide guidance and involve me in work that helps me develop. I have regular check‑ins with the early talent team and receive feedback from the banking lawyers, which makes it easy to understand how I’m progressing and where I can improve. There’s also a good culture of approachability, so I feel comfortable reaching out whenever I need help. Overall, the level of support has made a real difference to my confidence and growth throughout the programme.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. They offer clear guidance, regular check‑ins and helpful resources that make it easier to stay on track with my studies. Communication is generally strong, and I feel able to reach out whenever I need clarification. There are some areas where the information could be a little clearer or more structured, but overall the support has been effective and has helped me progress confidently.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
I feel that my qualification supports me well in performing my role. I feel that certain modules within the qualification have been particularly helpful in supporting my role. In particular, the Contract module has been the most directly relevant, as it underpins much of the drafting and document review work I’m involved in. The Academic and Digital Skills module has also been useful in strengthening my research, organisation and written communication, which I use daily. Additionally, the English Legal System module has helped me understand the broader legal framework I’m working within.
While not every module aligns closely with my day‑to‑day responsibilities, the ones that do have definitely helped me perform more confidently and effectively in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are plenty of extra‑curricular activities to get involved in at work. As a team, we regularly attend social events, and I recently took part in the Banking team’s away day, which was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues in a different setting and from different regions. As a paralegal team, we also have our own team days and socials, which are always enjoyable and give me the chance to get to know colleagues in a more relaxed, non‑formal setting. There are also firm‑wide events throughout the year that anyone can join. In addition, we often have activities and networking opportunities in the Hub, which is a really good space for mixing with colleagues from across the firm and getting involved in the wider culture.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Yes, I would recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend. My experience has been really positive—the work is engaging, the culture is supportive, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn and get involved across the firm. It’s a great environment to develop professionally while feeling part of a collaborative and welcoming team.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?

When applying to Pinsent Masons LLP, I would encourage candidates to be their authentic selves and let their genuine motivations come through. It’s important to research the firm thoroughly so you can speak confidently about why Pinsent Masons is the right fit for you. Having a clear and well‑reasoned explanation for why you’re interested in commercial law is also essential, as this helps demonstrate focus and commitment.
I’d also recommend staying commercially aware and presenting yourself professionally throughout the process, as both are key qualities the firm looks for. Showing that you understand the wider business context and can engage with it thoughtfully will really help you stand out.
