Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In my role as an HR Administrator, alongside completing my Level 3 HR Support apprenticeship, I support the HR team with a range of day-to-day tasks while continuing to build my knowledge of HR processes. My role has developed from mainly focusing on onboarding and general admin to being more involved in core HR activities. On a typical day, I carry out absence checks, process references, prepare probation completion letters, and support with exit interviews. I also spend time chasing any outstanding or unsigned documents, keeping the HR system up to date, and running reports to support the team.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme and have found it to be a really positive experience so far. I originally had the opportunity to move into a more HR-focused role from a general admin position, and after realising how much I enjoyed that side of the work, I was then offered the apprenticeship.
Since starting the programme, it has helped me build a better understanding of HR processes and how they are applied in a real working environment. I particularly enjoy being able to relate what I learn in my apprenticeship to my day-to-day role, as it helps things make more sense and builds my confidence.
It’s been useful in developing my knowledge across different areas of HR, and I feel like I am gaining skills that will support my future career in HR.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I’ve developed both new and existing skills through my role and apprenticeship. I had some understanding of HR before, but being in a more focused role has helped me build on that and gain a clearer understanding in practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well organised and structured overall. The learning is set out clearly, and I have a good understanding of what is expected of me and when.
The combination of coursework and regular workshops with my works well, as it allows me to discuss topics and build on my understanding alongside others in similar roles. I also feel supported throughout the programme, with regular check-ins and guidance when needed.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer. They are very invested in helping me do well in my apprenticeship and develop in my role.
I have support and guidance from my team and line manager, including mentoring and regular help when I need it. They also give me opportunities to get involved in different HR projects so I can learn new things and broaden my experience.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive regular support from my training provider while working towards my qualification. The 1-1 sessions are particularly helpful as they give me the opportunity to spend time with my tutor individually, rather than being in a group call during workshops, so I can go through things in more detail and ask specific questions. I can also email them with any questions, and they respond quickly and helpfully. They are happy to review my work and provide feedback and suggestions on how I can improve, which helps me develop my understanding and progress in the programme.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification supports me well in my role. It helps me understand HR processes more clearly and gives me a better foundation for the work I do day-to-day. Being able to link what I learn in my training to my role, has helped me become more confident and accurate in my work. It also helps me understand the reasons behind certain processes, rather than just completing tasks.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, we have a few extra-curricular activities at work. These include head office days out, the Superstar Awards, and the work Christmas party. They are a good opportunity to see colleagues in a more social setting outside of the day-to-day work environment and meet people from other teams.
