Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role is challenging and engaging. No two days are the same and I am always learning something new. As a Quantity Surveyor I manage the cost of construction projects.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
The programme through University of the Built Environment is manageable, however extremely demanding as the course is compressed. The course is entirely virtual, which suits me, however it depends on the individual.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
In 3.5 years I've gone from knowing nothing about the role to being able to confidently manage contracts, clients and contractors independently. I have also developed existing soft skills to manage myself professionally within the workplace.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
The programme at UBE is reasonably well structured, however I have found that most of the course is a repeat of the last few years' teaching, with little having been changed or updated to suit different ways of learning, and industry development. I believe the course has now been updated for new starters.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
Mott MacDonald provide a 3 year structured programme to support new apprentices and graduates into the workplace and network with likeminded people.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
UBE's wellbeing team are amazing and do everything they can to support students. On the other hand, their apprenticeship team, module leads and tutors provide little additional support.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
I feel as though the way that my degree is structured, I have learnt most in the workplace before getting to that point within the degree.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Mott MacDonald provides lots of additional activities to get involved with, including networking events, social events, sports day and monthly office gatherings.
